Domestic Abuse Can Be Subtle

As we move into the winter months of our 2020 pandemic time, experts report that the number of cases of domestic violence and abuse have skyrocketed across the country.  Even prior to the pandemic, the numbers of both women and men who have suffered from abuse, and/or have died by the hands of their abuser are staggering: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men.   It’s also worthy to note that on a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive over 19,000 calls. It’s these calls, these stories, these news clips… especially if the abuse happens to someone of celebrity status…that makes us aware of the severity and severe difficulties that are experienced by these women and men. What doesn’t make the news, or get talked about much, is the domestic abuse that has been called by experts…”subtle domestic abuse”, a type of abuse that can be just as insidious and damaging as the more hard-core abuse.
