Small Steps Can Mean Big Difference

Small Changes and Big Impacts            As just one person out of seven billion, you may find yourself wondering, how can I make a difference? What can I do to change the circumstances that I cannot accept, whether that be in my own community or on a global scale? If you ever feel like you cannot make a change to an injustice in your life, think about young leaders such as climate activist Greta Thunberg or gun control activist Emma Gonzalez. Both started extremely small in their goals, but each day they continued to fight for their beliefs, and soon their voices were eventually magnified and heard throughout the entire world. We now have movements across the globe that not only bring awareness to these issues, but also help to push for change and progress in society.             That is what National Make A Difference Day is all about.  While the actual day has passed (October 24th), their message rings true for each and every day.  So, you may not become the next Thunberg or the next Rosa Parks, but you don’t have to be. Change can start off in your own local community or town. Perhaps find time out of your day to volunteer at a food drive, animal shelter, or homeless shelter. Donate clothes, books, and any other types of materials that you no longer use to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Go out with friends and pick up litter at the local park to keep green spaces both safe and clean. Consider joining a group to volunteer weekly. Not only does this foster a better sense of community, but you will be more likely to show up and help out in your community each weekend. No matter where you live, there are always places and people searching for volunteers to help and make a change in the community, especially during this pandemic.
