Tammy Williams, CEO of Envision2bWell, testified in front of the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access on June 15, 2021. The hearing was titled: “Reversing the Decline in Women Entrepreneurship: Opportunities for Rebuilding the Economy.”
Women-owned small businesses have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic with many reporting a decline in sales and fear permanently closing their businesses. As the nation reopens, women entrepreneurship can become an economic engine of growth. To ensure a robust recovery, Congress will need to consider ways to support women entrepreneurs, workers, and small business owners. This hearing gave Subcommittee Members an opportunity to hear how the pandemic has intensified perpetual challenges facing women entrepreneurs and how many women responded with innovative solutions.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to speak before members of Congress about my experience as a woman-owned, minority-owned business,” said Williams. “Access to capital is the number one barrier to women entrepreneurs and that needs to change. The number two barrier is lack of connections. I believe strongly that the government should focus on these to areas to help women-owned enterprises be more successful.”
When asked by Congresswoman Marie Newman, “What are the top priorities for Congress to do given our state of affairs in our economy?”, Williams replied:
“My top priority, and I can’t say this enough, is access. Access and relationships that are going to lead to capital.”
