In 2005, Mary Foley’s daughter, Charlotte, was murdered during a birthday party in East London. She was just fifteen years old.     Charlotte’s assailant was another young woman attending the same party, Beatriz Martins-Paes. Beatriz had gone to the party carrying a knife, planning to ‘have it out’ with one of Charlotte’s friends, but that friend got a stomach bug and never showed up. Beatriz stabbed Charlotte, unprovoked, in a moment of madness on the top landing of the staircase.
